Overview

Help towards study and material costs for financially disadvantaged students.

The 16–19 Bursary Fund is provided by the Government, via the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA). Applications can be considered under the following category:

Discretionary Bursaries

These are paid to students who can demonstrate financial need. The assessment is based on household income and the amount awarded varies on this basis. Students with a household income over £35,000 per year are not eligible to apply for a Discretionary Bursary.

The Discretionary Bursary helps with specific costs that you incur during your studies including:

  • Materials fees (£220)
  • International study trips (approximately £700)
  • Travel costs (students have to provide evidence of one weekly travel card purchase)

Students may also be able to apply for support with domestic and one-off emergencies e.g. redundancy or bereavement.
